other than the Natives who very likely would make things as difficult as possible for them.

Really? Is that what you think? If not for the Natives they would have all perished. The Natives gave freely of their food and help to the new arrivals. But the Pilgrims, not understanding the true generosity of the Natives, stole from them what would have been freely given. And often.

My suggestion to Jason:

You suffer from bad luck, running into teams on the weeks when they explode. Some leagues have a 2 win setting. The first batch of wins goes to the head to head victors, while the second batch of wins go to the highest point scorers of the week. For example in a 12 team league, 12 wins are awarded every week. Six go to the usual winners and six go to the six teams with the highest points for the week. This creates a more fair situation. I personally haven't done it yet, so I cannot suggest any sites that offer it.

You could also join a roto league or a non head-to-head points league. Though most of the fun is talking trash with your weekly opponent and placing small side bets with them.

It sucks to be that good and lose at the end - you are like the Patriots when they lost to the Giants. :)

Me, on the other hand...I had to win my last game of the season in the consolation playoffs just to avoid last place. Last year I scored the second-most points in the league but inexplicably allowed the most by a wide, wide margin and didn't even qualify for the playoffs. If someone can tell me how to work defense (and I don't mean the defense spot on the roster I filled with Detroit) into fantasy play, I'm all ears. I have no idea how I am continually outscored every year. Craziness.

You have the discipline gene and that's a HUGE plus. But all systems tend to wind down (law of entropy), so even a disciplined person needs motivation. I'm proud of you and Kyle for taking on this challenge. Just find a food/exercise lifestyle that's healthy AND that you can live with going forward. That's my advice.

This is AWESOME, Joel! I am in the process of trying to lose weight, too, so hearing any success stories is motivating for me. Not sure I'm ready to kick my own ass this much...yet...BUT I'm down 12 pounds so far! I'm excited to really kick it into high gear once summer arrives.
